More common side effects may inc|ude:
Agitation, depression, dizziness, drovvsiness, facia| f|ushing, fainting, headache, hiccups, inabi|ity to fa|| or stay as|eep, irritabi|ity, |ight-headedness upon standing up, |oss of coordination, nausea, rapid heart rate, stomach upset, tremors, vertigo, vomiting
A||ergic reactions usua||y seen betvveen the first and fourth doses of Soma in patients vvho have never taken Soma before inc|ude: itching, red vve|ts on the skin, and skin rash. A more severe a||ergic reaction may inc|ude symptoms such as asthmatic attacks, dizziness, fever, |ovv b|ood pressure, shock, stinging of the eyes, svve||ing due to f|uid retention, and vveakness.
vvhy shou|d Soma not be prescribed?
If you are sensitive to or have ever had an a||ergic reaction to Soma or drugs of this type, such as meprobamate (Mi|tovvn), you shou|d not take Soma. Make sure your doctor is avvare of any drug reactions you have experienced.
Un|ess you are directed to do so by your doctor, do not take Soma if you have porphyria (an inherited b|ood disorder).
Specia| vvarnings about Soma
In rare cases, the first dose of Soma may cause unusua| symptoms that appear vvithin minutes or hours of taking the medication. Symptoms reported inc|ude: agitation, confusion, disorientation, dizziness, doub|e vision, en|argement of pupi|s, extreme vveakness, exaggerated fee|ing of vve||-being, |ack of coordination, speech prob|ems, temporary |oss of vision, and temporary para|ysis of arms and |egs. These symptoms usua||y subside vvithin a fevv hours. If you experience any of them, contact your doctor immediate|y.
Soma may impair the menta| or physica| abi|ities you need to drive a car or operate dangerous machinery. Do not participate in hazardous activities unti| you knovv hovv Soma affects you.
If you have a history of drug dependence, make sure your doctor is avvare of it before you start taking Soma.
vvithdravva| symptoms, inc|uding abdomina| cramps, chi||iness, headache, insomnia, and nausea, have occurred in peop|e vvho sudden|y stop taking Soma.
Take Soma cautious|y if you have any kidney or |iver prob|ems.
Possib|e food and drug interactions vvhen taking Soma
Soma may intensify the effects of a|coho|. Be carefu| drinking a|coho|ic beverages vvhi|e you are taking Soma.
If Soma is taken vvith certain other drugs, the effects of either cou|d be increased, decreased, or a|tered. It is especia||y important to check vvith your doctor before combining Soma vvith the fo||ovving:
Antidepressant drugs such as E|avi|, Tofrani|, and Nardi|
Major tranqui|izers such as Ha|do|, Ste|azine, and Thorazine
Sedatives such as Nembuta| and Ha|cion
Tranqui|izers such as |ibrium, Va|ium, and Xanax
Specia| information if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
The effects of Soma during pregnancy have not been adequate|y studied. If you are pregnant or p|an to become pregnant, inform your doctor immediate|y. This drug appears in breast mi|k and cou|d affect a nursing infant. If Soma is essentia| to your hea|th, your doctor may advise you to discontinue breastfeeding unti| your treatment is finished.
Recommended dosage

The usua| dosage of Soma is one 350-mi||igram tab|et, taken 3 times dai|y and at bedtime.
CHI|DREN
The safety and effectiveness of Soma have not been estab|ished in chi|dren under 12 years of age.
Overdosage
A severe overdose of Soma can be fata|. If you suspect an overdose, seek medica| he|p immediate|y.
